The brief

The brief says where the project is going. It is one short document per project, and every agent and every worker reads it at the start of every turn and run.

New projects start with five sections. Keep each to a few lines.

## Vision
The fastest way to dictate on iPhone and Mac. Speak, and the text is there in under a second.
## For whom
People who write a lot on the go: journalists, students, founders.
## Principles
Private by default: audio stays on the device. Works offline. One tap to start.
## Not doing
Android in 2026. Team accounts. Meeting transcription.
## How to build and test
xcodebuild test -scheme Dictly; TestFlight via fastlane beta. A person merges. See AGENTS.md.

How to build and test matters more than it looks. Workers use it to build and test, and item checks such as “xcodebuild test passes” come from it.

The brief holds at most 8,000 characters. It is loaded into every turn, so short is a feature. Put long specs into the milestone they belong to, and engineering detail into the repo (an AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md), then link it.

Who What happens
You, if you manage the project (its owner, or a workspace owner or admin) Your edit applies at once. Edit it in Project settings › General or from the Overview.
Lea or another agent The edit is always a card for a person in Needs you › Decide, with a diff by section and the agent’s reason, at every autonomy level.

If the brief changed after Lea read it, her proposed edit is refused, and she rewrites it against the current version. So a card never overwrites your newer text.

Project-wide decisions belong in the brief. “No Android this year” goes into Not doing; the card that changed the brief records why.

Every change is kept. The Overview shows the brief’s revision and who changed it last (“rev 4 · Sam · Oct 12”), and the history lists each revision.

  • The Brief block at the top of the Overview (the first lines of the vision and of what you are not doing).
  • Project settings › General, in full.
  • Every agent’s turn and every worker’s run, under “Brief”, with its version.
  • read_project over MCP, as project.brief and project.briefVersion.
